Everything people usually want to know before they start, answered plainly. If your question is not here, our support team will answer it.
Yes. Joining, building your profile, browsing and searching other members near you all cost nothing. If you want to start conversations you upgrade to one of our membership packages, and you can do that whenever you like. There is no rush and nobody will chase you.
Because the parts you cannot see cost money. There are people answering support messages, and people whose whole job is keeping fraudulent accounts off the site. A service that charges nothing at all cannot pay for either, which is usually why the free ones are full of the people this article is about.
People over 60 from every part of the country, not only Buenos Aires. Our members are in the Ciudad and the conurbano, in Rosario, Santa Fe, Córdoba and La Plata, and in a great many towns a good deal smaller than those. Widowed, divorced, separated, and some who never married. Retired, semi retired, and plenty still working.
Very possibly, and it is worth looking rather than assuming. Set your search to your province rather than your town to begin with, because in the interior the person you get on with may be forty minutes away rather than four blocks. A good many couples who met this way started out an hour apart and decided it was not much of an obstacle.
Yes, and it makes more difference than anything else you will do. Profiles with a photograph get far more attention than profiles without, and a lot of members simply filter the ones without out of their searches. It does not need to be a good photograph. It needs to look like you.
No. Your email address and telephone number are never shown. What other members see is your first name, your photographs, your town and whatever you have chosen to write about yourself. Messages go through the site, so if you stop replying to somebody, they have no other way of reaching you.
Browsing profiles and photographs uses more data than messaging does. If you are on a prepago plan, the sensible approach is to do your looking on wifi at home, at the centro de jubilados or at the library, and use your data for reading and answering messages. If you are a jubilado or pensionado on a low income it is also worth asking your provider about the subsidised tariff, which many people qualify for and few people claim.
You will need a premium membership to start conversations. Once you have one you can write to anybody, and there is no limit on how many.
Be specific rather than impressive. Everybody writes that they are honest and enjoy a laugh, and none of it gives a reader anything to reply to. One real detail about your week is worth a paragraph of adjectives. There is more on this in our guide to writing a good profile.
You can send as many messages as you like, see who has been looking at your profile, use the more detailed search options, and see when other members are online.
The member area runs over an encrypted connection, your contact details are never shown to other members, and accounts are checked. Nothing on the internet is perfect, which is why the rest of it is up to both of us: never give another member your bank details, your card number or a photograph of your DNI, whatever reason they give.
Report them. There is a "Report profile" link at the bottom of every profile. It is confidential and the person is never told. Use the "Ignore" link afterwards as well so they cannot contact you again. Please do not wait until you are certain. We would far rather look into ten hunches that come to nothing than miss the one that mattered. Our article on dating scammers sets out the warning signs and where to report it to the authorities in your province.
Yes. The site works on a telephone, a tablet or a computer, and most of our members use a telephone. If you can manage WhatsApp you will manage this.
